THE CLUB

The club has been flying on the Plain since c.1936. We are open to new applicants whether you can already fly or are in need of training. Junior applicants are also welcome but must be accompanied at all times by their parent (or guardian). If you don’t have much experience of this hobby we should have sufficient expertise to help guide you and make those first few knocks small ones!

We are predominantly a fixed wing model airplane club. Some members fly helicopters and drones but we may be less well equipped to assist you if you need help flying these models.

We have two sites, one at Chingford Plain and one in Banks Lane in Epping. You can find our more information about them on the 'Where we fly' page.

Meeting you allows us to acquaint you with our rules and regulations and assess how much time you might be intending to devote to developing your flying skills.

APPLICATION FOR MEMBERSHIP
(PLEASE READ BEFORE APPLYING)

1. Flying at either club flying site is not permitted until your application has been processed and accepted and you are in receipt of your paperwork and familiarised yourself with the clubs rules/constitution. You will need to meet us before we will process an application.

A pdf membership application form can be requested from our Membership Secretary (see email address above).

2. New members are subject to a minimum twelve months probationary period.

3. Successful applicants who do not hold a minimum BMFA ‘A’ certificate in model flying must be supervised by a member who does. The licencing of Drone flyers seems subject to constant change so if you wish to fly solo we will assess at the time what level of competence solo flying might require.

4. Children (under 18yrs of age) or vulnerable adults must be supervised and have their parent, guardian or carer in attendance at all times.

5. By signing the application you agree to abide by/uphold the Club rules/constitution.

6. At Chingford Plain flying time is from 10.30am to dusk. At Banks Lane flying time is from 10am to dusk. See 'Where We Fly' for any updated site rules.

7. Abuse of the rules will lead to disciplinary action.

8. The committee reserves the right to refuse membership.

We also have minor chores like mowing our flying sites which we would expect members to help with on occasion.

NEW MEMBERS GUIDE

We have a downloadable pdf document which contains some basic guidance for new members. It is intended to help a novice pilot with preflight checks, advice about aircraft and transmitter set-up, on-site warning calls and your first flight.
